Shoreditch has always been a mecca for music and entertainment. In the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries Shoreditch's theatres rivalled those in the West-End. The Shoreditch Empire and Royal Cambridge Music Hall were giants of their day, with Charlie Chaplin treading the boards in his early days, before finding fame in America.
