Sir Thomas Lipton
Tea Building

History: Sir Tea

1970s

It was initially occupied by Lipton as a bacon curing and a tea warehouse. In many ways Sir Thomas Lipton was the father of modern advertising, so it's fitting that it is now full of media and marketing companies.

Sir Thomas famously paraded a gigantic hog down the streets of Glasgow with a sign attached to it reading "I'm going to Lipton's. The best shop in town for Irish bacon."

He also came up with the slogan "Direct from the tea gardens to the teapot."

In fact, his association with Ceylon tea earned him the nickname 'Sir Tea'.
